The Aviator

Continuing on with the kitchen makeover, we have now at long last got the two lights in place. Our newest light, the ceiling fan, had to be ordered. It's called 'The Aviator', and I just love it!

I didn't even want to let anyone see the old ceiling fan/light before we got this one in place. It was dreadful, and as I mentioned before all four of the fan blades had fallen off at various times. The first blade to go made the fan uneven and we could no longer use the fan. It gets fairly hot and muggy in Ontario in summer, so we really missed that fan. It took us so long to find one that suited the space just right, but now I'm glad we waited.

Isn't this just lovely?! See the little stubs where the blades broke off?

Goodbye ugly fan ...

... and hello beauty!

Of course, you may notice the large off-coloured circle on the ceiling from the old light. We'll have to paint the ceiling, which I dread since normally you paint the ceiling first in a room so you don't get drips all over the walls. But one thing at a time :)

The installation of the fan was a nightmare for my husband. The original fan had not been secured to a wooden beam up in the attic, and it amazes me that the whole thing didn't crash on our heads! When he got up in the attic and was twisted through the crosswork of beams, he knew why the previous owner didn't bother. I'm glad my husband persevered though, even though the air was blue in the kitchen for about an hour while he struggled and strained ... the fan quickly cleared all that away on high speed ;)

Would you like to see it in action?

Zippity Do Da!

The only thing I don't like about this is that you have to use a remote control to adjust the fan speed and light setting. Not a huge deal, but my husband and I are not in agreement as to where we should stick this remote, so it sits on top of the microwave for now. I just hope we don't lose it before we find a good spot to stick it to the wall.

So there you go, a lovely new sleek fan that resembles an airplane propeller which my son thinks is cool
(and so do I).

Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy

  1. Brilliant!!!! The poor fixings perhaps explain the issues with the old one, so it is good that your wonderful husband has put this one up properly!! It looks fabulous I have to say and goes so well with the lovely new light over the table - and the whole kitchen makeover in fact! You must be so pleased with the way that it has all turned out after all your hard work - because it is a lot of hard work doing something like that! I hope that you can find a good spot for the remote for the fan - what about putting a magnet on the back and then it can stick on the fridge? Well done you and your husband! xx

  3. It really is beautiful! Ceiling fans are called Florida chandeliers here....every room has one. We even had one in the bathroom when we moved here but it's gone now! lol Sweet hugs, Diane

  5. I love your new fan. I have ceiling fans in all four bedrooms of my house. I'd like one in the kitchen eventually too, in the breakfast nook. We enjoy having ours; we use them at night when we're sleeping just to keep the air moving in the room.

  9. It is sleek and perfect for your space friend! You gave me a chuckle with your old fan as that is what my upstairs fan looked like before we switched it out...it would actually shake if you turned it on! Such a stunning space for your new aviator!!! Enjoy!!!! Wishing you a lovely week! Nicole xoxo

  10. I love your new fan, Wendy - it does look like a propeller! I am now embarrassed about my old fans....:) Maybe if I show this to my hubby he will be inspired to change them out! Your kitchen is looking very nice! xo Karen

  12. Very nice! We have ceiling fans in most of the rooms of our house because we only use the A/C when it's hot and humid. I was thinking, how about adding one of those premade ceiling circle things from Lowes or Home Depot to cover the old spot? I think they're only plastic and can be painted but are made to look like fancy ceiling decor. Do you know the things I'm talking about? Of course that means the aviator would have to be removed to attach this to the ceiling first - just a thought.
