Chevron Blanket

I would first like to thank everyone who shared a comment on my last post regarding keeping my blog going. You have all given me such kind comments and I really appreciate the input. I did reply to most of you, but I became quite sick with the flu last weekend and was unable to continue replying. It's taken me a week to recover from that flu, and now it seemed the time to reply had gone by. I have taken everyone's comments into consideration and have decided to continue with blogging for now. I don't know how often I'll be posting, but I do want to get back to my beloved blog.

And on that note, I have a finished knitting project to share with you! I have spent the last two months working up a blanket for my son. Last fall I had purchased some yarn to make up these little leaves for an exchange with blogging friends.

I hadn't used up much of the yarn for the leaves, and having a stash of yarn floating around irritates me. I had to use it up. I also had yarn left over from the blanket I made for my dad last year. I searched on Ravelry and found this wonderful pattern for a baby blanket by Espace Tricot ...

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-baby-blanket-19

I amended the size in order to make the blanket large enough for my grown son. Of course, once I started, I realized I would have to purchase more yarn, but that was okay if it meant getting something out of the scraps as well. I worked the blanket up on a circular needle working back and forth, and I really loved the chevron pattern as it worked up. I changed the stripes a bit and really like the variation. This was a really simple pattern to knit, and I think it would be a great beginner project. The only tricky stitch was the purl stitch through the back loop, but even that is quite easy once you get the hang of it, and there are videos on youtube to assist with that.

It's been nice to have this blanket to work on through the cold part of winter. It has grown and grown and been draped over my knees through many hours, with quite a few mugs of morning tea and quite a few snowstorms!

By the time I got to the end, I had knit a twin-sized blanket! Not really my intention, but once I had decided to repeat the pattern a certain way, there was no going back. The finished measurements are 48" x 68". You can see more details on my Ravelry page if you're interested.

The top and bottom ends of the blanket are pointed, which is kind of neat. I didn't block this blanket since it was made out of acrylic. I'm not a real fan of acrylic, but it is safe for the washing machine and drier. It'll be easy for my son to care for it when he takes it up north with him to work next month.

And a nice bonus is that the colours go well with the quilt already on the bed ;)

The only downside of all of this stashbusting? I've created new balls of leftover yarn.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy

  1. Beautiful blanket! I love it. The colors are perfect for a young man. I know the exact baby blanket you came across. I have had it in my Pinterest feed for years because I'm always looking for chevron blankets. I can't knit one, only crochet, but I get both knit and crochet in my searches. I'd really like to make a chevron with wide stripes eventually. I'm sorry to hear that you were sick. My daughter was very ill for all of last week, it was terrible. I hope you're on the mend now. Take care, Wendy.

  3. Such a fabulous blanket, Wendy. The colours are perfect and the chevron pattern inspired. Looks great on his bed and yes, it matches the lovely quilt also...always a plus. So you have more scraps of wool with which to create another pretty. =) It is so nice to visit you. To me blogging is about posting when you want to. I would hate it if I thought I had to post several times a week, or even weekly. It is supposed to be a fun pastime. Oh before I forget.....those leaves and acorns are lovely. Hope you are feeling better; enjoy a lovely week.

  4. The blanket is beautiful! Yarn scraps seem to multiple by themselves. I've been knitting blocks, rectangles or and filling a bag then sewing the pieces for cushion covers.

Glad that you're getting over the flu.

    take care

  5. So glad that you decided to keep your blogging, Wendy! I was admiring your chevron blanket on your IG. I must admit that I'm a lazy IG user...I never post and rarely comment. Thank goodness for the "Like" button!

  6. That's a great looking blanket - some love from home your son can take with him up north. Those scraps of yarn do seem to multiply, though. I am glad you'll be keeping up with your blog - I don't post as often as I used to, but I don't want to abandon mine, either. Hope you are fully recovered from the flu.

  8. So sorry you have had the flu - it is sweeping the world these days, and no longer stays in its own country. The blanket is really fabulous Wendy, beautiful knitting and a great combination of colours. And matches the quilt so well as a bonus. Happy knitting :)

  10. Well, I will have to go read your last post now, but definitely don't stop blogging. I haven't been as constant in my posting either, but yet blog friends I've made over many years are still there waiting for me which is awesome. I love Instagram, too, and have made different friends there. It's nice when blog and IG friends intersect, but that's not always the case, so don't stop blogging.

The blanket is beautiful and I'm sure much appreciated by your boy. I have many baby blankets that I need to finish and although I started them with yarn stash, I will need to buy more to finish them. Always the dilemma. :)

I hadn't seen your previous post - I've been on-and-off the internet lately, still trying to get back into a rhythm after being without my laptop for two multiple-week sessions. But I'll just say I hope you'll feel like continuing your blogging anytime the mood strikes you, whether it's frequently or occasionally. I always enjoy visiting your blog, and also appreciate your comments on mine.
