What to Do

I'm not feeling much like blogging these days. After a few years of it, I feel like I'm repeating myself through the seasons. I had considered closing the blog down, but changed my mind. I found out that some of my very longtime friends actually read my blog and enjoyed it. One blogging friend even contacted me when she realized my blog had disappeared for awhile. I didn't think anyone had noticed really, so that was a surprise. I'm still undecided on whether to continue publishing blog posts, but I don't want to get bogged down in trying to explain why ... change of seasons, personal commitments, lack of time, lack of photos even ... who knows. I've taken up with Instagram, but even that kind of fell flat for me after a couple of months, but it is a great way of staying connected with some blogging friends and distant family.

And that's my short and pathetic blog post for today. Not even a photo :[  I can only say "We'll see what happens".

  1. My dear Wendy, I completely understand where you're coming from as I am right there with you. FOr the past several months I have seriously considered stepping away from my blog...I am still praying about it.

I will be thinking of you, dear one. I have always enjoyed visiting you, but please know I will understand whichever decision you make :)

Sending love and hugs your way!

  2. Wendy, I only blog once a week. That's all I honestly have time for. I have made some wonderful blogging friends. Some of my blogging friends know more about me and my immediate family than my extended family does. If I used my blog to make a little money it would be totally different but I don't. I have had several of my blogging friends go to a Monthly Newsletter and I love that idea. Praying the Lord leads and guides you in the direction you are to go in. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. I don't blog as often as I used to, but I don't plan to stop. I feel a lot less pressure since I decided to relax and just blog as I feel like it, instead of worrying about whether I was doing it enough, or if people were reading it. I tried Instagram for a couple of years, but it didn't work for me. I can't keep up with my feed and communicating with people, and I don't think much in my world is all that Instagram-worthy to begin with. I felt a huge relief when I deactivated my account. I hope you know that I have always enjoyed your blog. I think your posts are interesting. I like seeing your life with older kids because it gives me a view into what that will be like someday, and I also appreciate the way you are with your kids as you guide them through young adulthood. I will keep reading as long as you want to blog. I understand whatever decision you make, though. I hope all is well with you and family otherwise. Take care.

  4. I noticed that you haven't published a post in a while and I have wondered how you are doing. I enjoy stopping by and read about your life. I particularly enjoy your hiking and canoeing adventures, it is a little like going on an adventure for me, too. I think blogging should be fun and enjoyable. If it means you only feel like writing once a year, that's ok. If you feel like writing twice a day, that's ok, too. Take care xx

  5. I recommend just posting when you wish to. It doesn't have to be a daily commitment, or even weekly.

  6. As the others have said Wendy just drop by now and then and say hi whenever you feel like it. I keep going with mine because I like sharing patterns but it's only usually once a week if that, I was blogging three times a week at one point. I hope you don't stop altogether I love reading your posts and looking at your amazing photo's. :) xx

  7. You have been missed! I figured you might be having too much fun with winter activities.

All of us experience the ebb and flow of how often to blog. Wendy, your blog posts are always appreciated and likewise your photos. That said, it is entirely as you wish. Your blog friends will always be here ready to hear from you. Take care.

  8. I too always enjoy your blog very much Wendy, but also completely understand your feelings. This year particularly I am finding much the same thing, not so inclined to blog, don't have anything interesting to say or photos to share. There was a time when the whole process excited me so much I wrote several posts a week, but these days only a couple per month. Take your time, and we'd love if you checked in now and then, but understand if you do not. I have enjoyed seeing you on Instagram, but have not found I have anything much to say in the Instant mode.

  10. I felt the same way last year, but changed my mind and post when the urge hits me. Now, maybe once or twice a month.
I always enjoy your wonderful pictures from your gorgeous area and your lovely posts, Wendy!

  11. So many of my favourite blogs have ceased publication. I miss the chitchat and connection. I've cut back to once or twice a week, and I don't want to stop. There are many family and friends who read my blog and never comment. It's a way for me to chronicle some of life's events, to practice my photography, and to maintain connection with some people.
I hope you don't stop. I've always enjoyed your knitting posts, although I don't knit, and your posts about your little daycare charges, and of course, the beautiful walks and canoe trips you take.

  12. Hello Wendy,
I feel this way all of the time. I just focus on those folks that I have made a true connection with and I have let the others go. I have slowed down but not closed shopped just yet. I enjoy your IG account and I pop on over here too. Do what make you happy, life is way too short not to!

  13. Hello Wendy, I have slowed down my blogging too. Today we are having rainy weather so I am catching up. I hope you continue to blog, even if it is only once in a while to catch us up with updates. Take care and just have fun. Have a happy Thursday!

  14. Hi Wendy, I think we all need to take a bread from social media sometimes-I know I have-but I don't close my account so I will be here when I want it again.
also I used to really really love blogging years before facebook came on the scene-and that has really changed everything-at least that was the case with me. I love blogging better but none of my friends are here anymore they love the short version of just liking everything over on facebook. I have joined the T for Tuesday party every week now and I so enjoy it very much--I think it depends how involved you want to be too

  15. I've always enjoyed your blog, Wendy and had fun getting to know you. Do what you want and blog when you feel like it! But please stay in touch sweet lady! Hugs, Diane

  16. Hi Wendy, I understand how you feel about blogging. I used to keep up with a "schedule" when I was crafting for others, but when I didn't join in with the challenges and with other link ups I felt that perhaps I should just stop. Then after much prayer and consideration I realized that I'd like to blog, just for me. To me it's a place to share the things I love and am interested in. If someone reads it, that is extra special! I have loved the fact that we have met though blogging, and no matter what....I have your addy! :)
You need to decide what it is you need. For me, I'll never close my blog, but my post are spastic, and I'm ok with that.
Praying you have a lovely day! Hugs!

  17. Should I say or should I go?

At the end of the day, you gotta do what's best for you!

  18. I have struggled with keeping my blog going.Just when I think I should close it down, someone leaves a wonderful, encouraging comment and I know I must keep on going.i hope you find a way to stay in touch, even if only a couple of times a month.

  19. I have missed you, Wendy. I have wondered what you have been up to. Visiting your place is always a delight.....your tales of your adventures are always interesting and fun. It's perfectly fine to blog just when you feel like it or if you want to share something. I hope you do continue to blog, even if it is only sometimes.

  20. Hello Wendy, I too enjoy visiting your blog from time to time. You will be missed by me if you leave blogging. You could always just post photos on IG too if you don't feel like blogging. I understand about the blogging too. It's a lot of work trying to take photos, upload them to the blog, and find things to talk about. Maybe you could just pop in from time to time and say hi and blog when you are in the mood.
    Take care of yourself.

  21. Hey Wendy,

This post of yours is quite poignant and timely, as I am EXACTLY in the same frame of mind - don't say you haven't noticed!;)) Tonight, after a bit of a hiatus, I decided to see what my favourite blogging buddies were up to and hence, here I am. My next post is to be on this very subject. When I get to it, is anybody's guess!

When I first started Poppy View, back in May of 2012, I was ecstatic that a)I actually managed to maneuver my way around in Blogger's Dashboard, without deleting entire posts and b)I was elated that I quickly made so many friends, with such sweet and talented like-minded ladies who could really identify with what I was writing or photographing. The thing is, I STILL feel that way, but, because I LOVE to challenge myself, Instagram won my heart this past summer and I am really enjoying the same process within that media, too.

The problem is, I don't have the time for both. As you say about IG, it's fun to keep in touch with people on a daily basis, simply by posting a pic with a few sentences, or not, or just dropping by to say 'Hi!'. You know what I mean. There's a constant connection.

In any case, I have always enjoyed visiting your blog. You are a wonderful writer and a sensitive soul and I will surely miss your presence here. Similarly, I missed your pics in IG, too, when I noticed that you hadn't posted in a while.

Anyway, I can relate. This has gone on far too long, so, schooch over, and make some room for me on that fence, while we ponder this a little longer, together!

    Take care,
    xoxo
    Poppy

  22. I am also thinking of stopping regular posting. I’ve been amalgamating posts, eliminating some so that it can be left as a reference site. I get so many hits on a lot of my patterns and plant info.

  23. Hi Wendy, I hope you keep your blog going. I haven't been out to enjoy other blogs much lately but I keep hoping to change that. Anyway, your blog is wonderful so I hope you feel inspired somewhere along the line to keep going. I'm struggling myself and thought about closing my blog down but my husband convinced me to keep it up and blog when the time or desire hits. Then you always have that option. Take care, Kelly.

  24. Hi Wendy, please don't go away, just slow down and post once in a while . . . even a monthly post:) Think about the big wigs Better Homes and Gardens, Country Living, Mary Jane Farms . . . they all get in a rut. Themes run with the seasons, it's not repeating itself it just the seasons of life . . . we all go through them. There's winter holidays with warm and cozy makings, then there's waiting for Spring, followed by gardening, camping, and warm weather adventures. Then it's canning, Autumn leaves and color, comfort food and getting ready for winter again. We all go through the same things, but it's wonderfully exciting seeing what others are doing with their time and energy. Just like you enjoy reading our journeys, we also enjoy reading yours.
By the way . . . I love that little cat hat in the post before this one . . . cute, cute, cute:)
Keep Smiling and don't give up the ship!
    Connie :)

  25. I know the feeling Wendy. It can be hard to keep a blog going and keep it fresh. I always enjoy reading what you write but it has to work for you first and foremost. Xx

  29. I hope you keep blogging Wendy - even if just once in a while. Or at least stay on instagram. I love checking in with you when I'm able and seeing what's happening in your world. But I agree that it needs to be something you enjoy too. Either way know I value you as wonderful blogland Friend and love our time together whenever it is!! ;) xoxo have a blessed weekend

  30. I'm a firm believer that blogging should not be a chore. I took a few months off a couple of years ago and it made all the difference, I came back with a lot of inspiration. Whatever you do, I hope we don't loose touch.
