As soon as it's tax time, I can think of a million other things I'd rather be doing. Suddenly, the knitting project ideas come fast and furious, and I'm stunned that I didn't think of these things during the slow months of winter. This past week, when I promised myself I would start on my tax receipts, I kept seeing this big blue teddy bear in our playroom with absolutely nothing to cover him! Well, I decided I just had to make him a little knit vest. I thought about it for a couple of days because I've never knit a garment before (apart from hats, mitts and scarves), so I wanted to be sure I could wrap my head around the process before I began. It took me a day to knit this up and two more days to write out a pattern (should you also have a naked teddy bear in the house). The pattern is on the side bar under "Free Knitting Patterns".
Now I have no excuses left, and will be starting on the taxes today ... rather than getting a haircut, or knitting another vest to double-double check my pattern writing skills, or taking the dog for a walk in the woods, or giving the house a good spring cleaning, or getting a parcel ready to send to my brother, or ... well, you get the picture. Suddenly everything seems urgent, but the tax chore sits heavy in the back of my mind until I tackle it. ugh
Hope you're enjoying some promise-of-Spring weather this weekend. We are having just that here in southern Ontario. Another good reason to get the taxes finished up now rather than when the warm Westerlies bring a rise in the temperatures luring me outside and away from the ledgers.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Wendy
Cody is also ready for Spring!! |
So cute! I agree, taxes are no fun, but just think how happy you'll be when they're finished. I think you should take yourself out for a haircut and coffee to celebrate. :)
ReplyDeleteI like your thinking Jennifer! I've already booked the haircut ;)
DeleteCody is a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI've got the documentation (though I have to track down my rent receipts), so I'd better get the taxes done in the next few days.
Since I decluttered our home, all my receipts have been easier to find making the tax chore a little less painful
DeleteI am so glad I don't have to do tax returns, I am taxed at source. Your teddy vest is very sweet, I bet he feels more cosy now. My mum knitted little dungarees for my daughter's bunny rabbit... an idea for you in case you need more distraction. x
ReplyDeleteWe are also taxed at source, but I guess this way, the rich can find tax shelters and loop holes and the rest of us pay even more :o
DeleteThis is sooo adorable Wendy
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy it was fun to work on this
DeleteHope tax time goes well for you. Mine are all done for this year.
ReplyDeleteI have an accountant do mine, but I have to prepare the expense summaries for my daycare to take to him ... blah
DeleteThanks for sharing your pattern! I'm sure there are some animals and dolls that need one here too! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThe teddy bears in the playroom have never had proper clothing like the dolls, now three of them are sporting new knit vests ;)
DeleteCute little vest. A friend also wanted to practice her sweater knitting skills but only did so on a small scale. She said that was enough to satisfy her urge to make something wearable. :) I should really be cleaning house but always find much better ways to occupy my time.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a sweater, but I don't usually wear sweaters either so not much point there. Cleaning house ... don't get me started ;)
DeleteAren't you clever!
ReplyDeleteIt came to me in a burst of sudden comprehension ;)
DeleteTed looks so cute in his little vest Wendy, good luck with the tax returns. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, Ted hasn't taken the vest off since I made it ... he must be happy with his new look.
DeleteCute little sweater . Taxes YIKES did them enough over the years now we have a an accountant to do ours every year just hand him all the info and off he goes no muss no fuss for us . Hope you can get them done soon and take the time to enjoy your time doing something fun instead ! Your pup Cody is a handsome one !Thanks for sharing , Have a good week !
ReplyDeleteI've used an accountant too for my home business, but I have to first prepare the expense summaries, then I go in and sit with him for a couple of hours and it's all done and filed by the time I leave. Works for me.
DeleteCute vest! Social media is a great procrastination tool. Your taxes must be more complicated because your daycare business. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteYes, social media is a distraction, which is why I'm replying to everyone here on the blog today ;)
DeleteThat’s a cute vest pattern. I don’t send in mt taxes till the deadline as I always have to pay and don’t give them my money till I have to.
ReplyDeleteI efile before the deadline, then pay just in the nick of time ;)
DeleteI always find I put off things like doing taxes and then when I get them done it never seems quite so bad as I've built things up in my mind. Cute little vest though!
ReplyDeleteA lesson I learned long ago too. I have to deal with things immediately or I worry and stress about them.
DeleteWhat a darling little bear. Love his little vest. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy, the bear's name is Bluebeary ;)
DeleteIt's easy to find something to do other than one's taxes, isn't it. Love the yellow vest for your blue teddy. How clever of you, Wendy. Cody is such a sweet boy.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I can always find a million other things to do instead ha ha!
DeleteThis is so relatable -- I too can think of so many things to do other than the looming obvious chore in front of me! Your little sweater is darling. I am knitting my first sweater for myself and it is going so slow! I should have started with a teddy bear sweater!! xo
ReplyDeleteWe are of like minds Deborah. Best of luck with your sweater. Nothing wrong with going slow, I'm a slow knitter as well, but just keep at it. I'd love to see the results!
DeleteI am so impressed by your knitting abilities - and writing a pattern to go along with it! The bear and his vest are so sweet. Fortunately, I don't do the taxes around here, for I fear there would be much procrastination!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorrie, I do hope the pattern is correct as I only tested it haphazardly one time.
DeleteWell, you couldn't let the poor Teddy Bear get a chill, now, could you? So cute. I always work best when I am up against a deadline and have procrastinated, too :)
ReplyDeleteA a little knit vest is a must for every teddy, I'm sure the taxman would understand.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
Isn't that just darling! I just love the yellow and blue combination! And I understand the dread for tax season. We got ours out of the way earlier this year, and I'm so glad I made myself do it. Good luck with it all! Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteThere is something about deliberate distractions. :) You have a wonderful vest you've created!!!
ReplyDeleteI just finished getting our taxes done, it is just one of those necessary tasks.
Praying you enjoy your day!
