November

Dreary November weather has descended on us this past week. As much as I love fall, I dislike a continuous stretch of dark days when indoor lights need to be on all day just to see what you're doing. Yesterday, despite a steady drizzle, I packed the kids into the van and we headed down the road to Thickson Woods. It's just big enough for them to run, run, run and get muddy and enjoy being outside a bit ... all within their hour limit. After an hour they want me to pick them up and carry them ... not happening. It was enough to get some fresh air in our lungs and the smell of wet leaves and pine needles into our senses. A few pics rounded out the adventure. My camera is not working properly (it won't take the photo!) so I'm reduced to using my phone. Some of the photos just didn't turn out nicely, but I got a few in the darkness :)

I like having the panoramic option on my phone!

There's not a lot happening out my way. Thinking of Christmas and working on knitted projects ... will show more on that soon. I'm making two of the daycare kids scarves to match their new coats. How wonderful it must be to buy a brand new winter coat every year. I have trouble finding winter coats for myself that aren't over $200 and will keep me warm when it's -20C.

My neighbours are slowly adding their outdoor Christmas decorations to their homes. It starts suddenly around mid-November, when we're all shocked at how early the lights are going up. I hold off with the decorating until December actually arrives so that I've squeezed all I can out of fall first.

I see we have one more leaf collection week with our municipal garbage. There are enough of my neighbours' leaves around my yard to warrant a few more bags to be put at the curb. My one neighbour continues to mow his lawn and have his noisy leaf blower going most days to get rid of every last possible leaf from his yard. I don't mind the more "relaxed" look of leaves trapped in corners and amongst the garden debris. It gives the bugs and the birds some measure of protection and food, and makes me feel just a teeny bit like I'm still living in the country living beside a forest where there wasn't much point in removing every single leaf.

Enough rambling. I've got to head over to the library this morning for "Fireside Storytime". Hopefully the large gas fire will be lit, as we all sit around together singing a few songs and listening to a few stories. It could be worse 😉

Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy

Here's a couple of collages I made with the photos. Kind of neat.

  1. Fireside story time sounds like heaven, but I guess in reality it's not quite like that ?! Your photos are fab, love the contrast of the dark trees against the sky. I too prefer the "casual" look to my garden, but that might just be me being lazy!

  2. I too, rather love the sound of Fireside story time. Your neighbour needs a strong talking to. =) I love Autumn leaves everywhere, but then I'm weird! Below 20 degrees.....I'm shivering for you. Love those collages.

  3. Your photos look great and I bet the children enjoyed being outside... Although fireside story time does sound inviting!

  4. I enjoy watching our UK blackbirds picking over the fallen leaves in the garden to get at the insects. Miraculously all the dead leaves will have disappeared by the spring one way or another. I love your tree panorama.

  5. These shots definitely have that end of fall feel to them. Brooding and pretty.

  6. I know what you mean Wendy. Lots of gray and dreary around here too. The bit of snow we had melted already -and now it's just wet and muddy. I am looking forward to Christmas lights and getting some of our decorations out this weekend and get in the full Christmas swing next week. Blessings! xoxo

  8. Lovely moody photos. Lucky you having a tree filled space to take the kids for a run and to let off steam :)
It sounds like you're going to be busy leading up to Christmas.

  9. Today I spent the entire day indoors (except for chores, of course) doing the H-word, and by the time I went out for the evening feed I was in pretty poor shape physically, and kind of worn out mentally as well. What would we do without the option of going outdoors! Doesn't bear thinking about, does it? :)

  10. Hi Wendy, what lovely, woodsy photos you share today. I'm sure the children enjoyed their run outside, but it sounds like cosy indoors time has just about arrived for you over there. Our daughter has arrived from Canada, in time for the hot Australian Summer. Quite an adjustment for them!

  11. Hello, I am not a fan of winter or cold weather. The forest images are pretty. Cool mosaics. I have a habit of keeping coats and even shoes until they are well worn.
    Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

  12. Like you, I love the fall but struggle with the dreary weather we've had out here on the Wet Coast. I guess the whole country must be dreary at the moment. At least you have snow to look forward to, whereas here it will mostly be dark and wet the whole winter. Your picture collages are terrific!

  13. Your November photos are really quite beautiful Wendy. I like the browns, golds and rusts. We've had a couple of dustings of snow here but they melted and it's a cold rain today. The 'big snow storm' didn't materialize I guess which is fine by me as it will come soon enough. Enjoy the weekend.

  14. Isn't it interesting how we all have weather to contend with. I wrestle just horribly with the endless heat from mid July to October and occasionally November. Those long hot days with the air-conditioner running really mess with my outlook, so I understand how you feel in the reverse fashion.
These are beautiful photos Wendy and they capture the end of Fall so beautifully.
How dear of you to load up those children who are blessed to be under your care.
    xx

  15. Lovely photos . Yes this November has been quite dreary so far but this weekend has been sunny for us and quite pleasant . I do prefer a bit of snow on the ground and cloud then cloud and rain this time of year at least snow is bright and all the browns , golds and rust colours look nicer in it . Oh story time by the fire how cozy ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good week !

  16. The panoramic shot looks cool! Maybe Santa will bring you a new camera...

I dislike the shorter daylight too. I put up my Christmas tree a few weeks ago and put up my lights this weekend. Do share if you ever find a reasonably-priced coat that can keep us warm during our frigid winters!

  17. November, where did you go? Why this unseemly rush?

  19. A beautiful place to let the kiddos get some fresh air and enjoy nature! I love a 'natural' look in the yard, too. I never was much into 'perfection' and it does benefit the wild things, like you said. At least that's my excuse...hehe! Love your cushion in your last post, too! xx Karen

  20. You are so smart to get outside even when it's wet and gloomy. Being outdoors is always refreshing. I tend to stay indoors when the weather's not good, but like you said, fresh air in the lungs is good! We just got up the tree today and I will start decorating tomorrow. I feel woefully behind compared to my blogger friends, but that's okay. I tend to leave my decor up into January! xo Deborah
