Thickson Woods

Took the daycare kids for a walk in Thickson Woods today. The morning was a bit crisp, and gosh, it smelled wonderful in the woods! I could have taken them to the library for fireside storytime ... what would you have done if these woods were beckoning you on a nice fall day? I'm kind of tired tonight, so you can add your own commentary to the pile of photos here. Enjoy!

Puffballs ...

Chickadees ...

My son Kevin and his pal Jake completed their 60 km hike along Western Uplands trail in Algonquin Park. Kevin was exhausted when he dragged himself through the door last night. He said they were only cold when they made camp and first thing in the morning before they started walking again. Doesn't sound like he wants to do that again, or maybe if it's for a longer trip (ie. less km/day). I'll bet any portages he encounters on canoe trips now will seem like a breeze in comparison ;)  Well done guys!!

Jake

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Great choice to take the children into the woods. They got to experience the beauty of nature, at it's best.

  2. I've never been to Thickson Woods, but I've certainly heard of it, for years. In fact I think I remember the campaign to preserve it.

  3. Ahhhhh, so beautiful! I miss the sights and smells of fall. Definitely would have wandered into the woods with you. Congrats to the guys on their accomplishment.

  4. Oh, those gloriously hued Fall woods!! How amazing they are. I have no doubt the kids had the best time discovering all that is to be seen there, beckoning them (and you) to enjoy the beauty within. Though, a book reading by the fire would be good too.=) So glad Kevin and Jake arrived home safely with no worse for wear.

  7. Perfect choice, such beauty. You can go to the library any time, but the autumn forest is only for a while.
That's quite an accomplishment, such energy, just contemplating it makes me tired.

  10. Hello Wendy, and thank you for the gorgeous walk in the woods. How I'd love to be there to join in, but we have to wait a few more weeks yet. Today I received a little video and some pics of our grandsons playing in the Canadian leaves. Adorable! xx

  23. I'd choose the woods on such a gorgeous day. Too soon the rain / snow will come and you'll be forced to stay indoors. Beautiful colours in Thickson Woods. I'm so glad your son and his friend had a good time and are home safe.
