Cloudy with a Chance of Flowers

An overcast day today ... yesterday we had some rain, so the ground is now too wet and heavy for gardening  :(

Some of my flowers are coming into their prime however ...

... gorgeous iris in the softest shade of purple ...

... bleeding hearts  in pink ...

... and white ...

... dwarf columbine ...

... this one was a surprise in its muted pink ...

... and of course the lovely scented lilac ...

... still heavy with  yesterday's rain ...

I've been negligent with the knitting, and plugging away slowly on my book (lack of interest there too), so haven't joined in with the Yarn Along this week (again).  But there's no pressure for that is there?

I felt like blogging today, but nothing much happening here to share.  Happy Wednesday everyone.

Thanks for stopping by,

Wendy

  2. Your lilacs are amazing! What a dream. Are the irises your mom's? The soft purple is so pretty. I guess I kind of felt like blogging today too but I almost ended up on the couch watching TV instead. Have a good day!

    1. Thanks for visiting Stacy :) Yes, all the iris I have are from my mom, and this is the first year they're actually blooming! I'm looking forward to seeing which colours I took from Mom's gardens (hoping for a certain old-fashioned one from HER mother). Today I was so lazy with the clouds scudding by and the threat of a storm, which only turned out to be a bit of thunder ... ho hum.

    2. Wendy, I wish I could reply to you via email!! I added a hemlock bark dust to my new garden. It is sliver free so I guess you could walk out there barefoot ~ I know my kids do and so far so good! I sure hope you get the iris you are hoping for ~ that will be such a treasure. We had quite a bit of rain today. I appreciate the free water :) Have a good evening!

  3. Wow, what beautiful flowers you have! The lilacs in Michigan have been extra lush this spring thanks to all the rain.

  6. First, what a great title! Second, what INCREDIBLE flowers! Our lilacs are on the verge of blooming. I can't wait to breath in that delicious scent. My irises are just green stems at this point. I find myself envying the blossoms you are already able to revel in!

    1. The lilacs only came out this weekend, and that iris is the only one blooming ... but the rest have buds! I felt the same way with seeing people just south of us (and I think on the west coast) enjoying earlier blooms. I'm glad you stopped by Wabi Sabi ;)

    1. Thanks Nicole! I love columbine too, but the larger variety is my favourite (of which I have none). These dwarf flowers are popping up everywhere and I'm forced to pull them out like weeds (same as the bleeding heart).

    1. I've always loved the lilacs for many reasons. I have two smaller bushes from Mom's garden which are doing great too.

  11. Your photographs are just beautiful. What a wonderful job. I am envious of all your beautiful plants, too. Here in north Texas, our lush greens are about to fade away with the onset of summer's blistering heat. So, for the rest of the summer, I will be enjoying lush plants from photos of gardens like yours.

Thanks for stopping in from Fishtail's Garden Party.
