Thrift Store Finds

A little thrift store shopping on the weekend yielded a few nice finds.

A lovely maple rolling pin, not an old one, but good and solid with such nice curvy handles.  I have a 'thing' for old rolling pins.  I love all their cracks, bruises and memories, some known, some just a fanciful thought on my part.  Just imagine all the special pies and cookies these rolling pins have shaped over the years!  Love the black-handled one :)

A very heavy lidded cake plate that I've been searching for for many years.  Can't you picture some pretty Christmas cookies and squares towered underneath that lid?

I love blue glass dishes!  This pretty set is thick glass and will look so nice for Christmas dinner!

So sparkly!  I love it!

Was thrilled to see this old thread spool holder!  It's just cheapo plastic, but it was kind of cute ... and it was full of these spools, and that was the real draw!

Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy

  6. The cake stand is a great find! I have a 'thing' for rolling pins too and now own my late Mother in Laws rolling pin, which I now use reguarly. She was a great pastry maker ... maybe using her pin will rub some of skill on me ...

    1. I'm sure you must be right! Isn't half the skill passed through rolling pins? My late mother's rolling pin is third from the bottom, and when I use hers I feel we are still baking together :) Thanks for stopping by! Wendy

  10. So many wonderful finds in one day! I collect rolling pins too! I always thought that was a fairly rare collection...it's nice to find someone else who loves them. :-) I have that exact same cake stand and cover. I use it a lot. Did you know that you can turn the cake stand upside down and then place the top upside down into the pedestal and it makes a pedestal bowl. It comes in handy sometimes. The blue glass items you found are so pretty too. I love blue. I have a set of blue depression glass tumblers and goblets in a very similar blue. I like the table cloth in your photos too. What a fun day you had!

    1. I think a lot of people collect rolling pins ... probably bringing us all heartwarming memories of grannies and mothers! Excellent tip about the cake stand, I didn't realize! I have another salmon pink sugar bowl that was my mother's that looks very similar to the blue (but I think the blue is nicer).
