Tea Party Tuesday

My parents always kept their tea in a little tin, clearly marked 'Tea'.  And when that tin split apart after much use, they didn't miss a beat and used this one instead.

They were a practical sort of people, and you can see where they wrote 'Tea' with a marker under 'coffee' just in case there should be any question about it.   I have cookie cutters in it now.  It was part of a wedding gift set they received over 50 years ago ...

I always like to store my tea bags in a pretty container.  It just makes me happy to use a pretty pot to store my tea, just as it makes me happy to use a pretty tea pot or tea cup.   I started off using this small storage pot.

It used to hold cookies (as big around as the jar).  It holds a nice number of tea bags, and I've used it for many years.  I could be happy with just this pot ... but ...

I also like this blue & white striped mug from my parents.  My dad had it shipped over from England with a few other pieces when his mother passed away.  It's cracked, so I can't use it for drinking tea, but I didn't want to part with it, and I wanted to use it for something ...

So I fill it with tea bags too ... but still ...

I then found this odd tiny tea pot(?) at the thrift store.

Since it matches my little theme here of blue & white, I decided to toss a couple of tea bags in it too ... and then ...

On the weekend I picked up this good-sized pot specifically for tea!  I've seen this same pot on the shelf for a good number of weeks now, and I think it was waiting just for me.  It was terribly dirty with a messy sticky kind of dirt, but I cleaned it with boiling hot water and lots of suds and it came out sparkling.  But now what?

Do I keep adding to my tea storage containers, or do I restrict myself to just one.  hmm  I should just stop picking these cute little pieces up at the thrift store is what!

How about you, do you store your tea in one specific pretty pot?

  2. Good morning Kathy! I like to use items for a different purpose all the time ... it allows little items to be useful :) I agree, collecting IS too much fun, and there's the rub!

  3. I love blue and white and love all your storage containers. So funny that your parents wrote TEA in black marker. :) I like the unique little tea pot -- never seen one shaped like that before. Have a great day. Tammy

  5. Blue and white is such a classic color combo and I really like how you are storing your tea. I just have a couple of tins but I think I can do better than that.

    1. Thanks Stacy ... maybe I should paint my kitchen blue & white! Might I suggest a trip (or 20!) to the thrift store for some classic tea storage ideas? :D

  6. I laughed while reading this. This is something I would so do too! I love all your little sentimental containers. I have a tea drawer with a tea box in it. We like to have a few varieties available.

    1. Thank goodness thrifting craziness prevails in blogland! I am not alone. Now there's an idea to justify more than one tea vessel ... I could buy more than ONE kind of tea! Maybe some Earl Grey to add to the breakfast tea! I love a good excuse to continue :D

  7. So many fun and cute containers! I especially like the blue and white one with the windmill. The tiny teapot is super cute too. My collection of tea has outgrown containers and is now filling a drawer. I've been trying to think of a prettier way to organize and store it but haven't come up with any ideas yet. Happy Tea Tuesday! :-)

    1. You can actually fill a drawer?! I'm impressed! Off to the thrift store with you too! Or YOU could actually make some tea vessels in your pottery class ... if you're still in a class ;) Happy Tea Tuesday to you too!

    1. I'm the same Ada... bag in a mug but then when I have company I forget to use my vinatge teapots and use this clunky steel one. Not very pleasing if I'm honest!

Wendy I love all your teabag storage. Nice to have a few canisters. You need them all filled in case one runs out!! Hazel x

    2. Ada ... I like Earl Grey tea too, but I never think to add it to the grocery list (my husband does the grocery shopping ... ahem). To be honest, I do bag in mug most times I want tea because I have a super insulated, lidded stainless steel mug that keeps my tea HOT for over an hour! I only use 'Brown Betty' when company comes (she's the only fancy tea pot I have!).

Thanks Hazel, you're right, and all ARE now filled. As I work my way through them, starting from largest to smallest, I can judge how much tea I have left. By the time I'm on the tiny tea pot it's time to add 'T T T for ME ME ME' on the grocery list. (and yes, that's really what I write on the list :D)

  9. What great finds, Wendy, and I loved seing your photos :) The tea containers are all lovely, but I especially like the one with the windmill.
Your post is so inspiring! I just keep teabags in the paper box they come in, but now I'll definately be on the look out for a nice jar to store them in, that's so much nicer :)

    1. That windmill tea container was given to me by my husband's employer at their Christmas party one year. The family that ran the business were Dutch, so all our presents had a Dutch theme to them. Yes, I think something better than just the original tea box would be great ;)

  10. Hi Marlen, and thanks for stopping in :) I love little things to look at around my home too ... sadly I also like the minimalist look, so I'm in constant torment! Have a great day :)

  11. I love the canisters that your parents kept their tea and coffee in! Very cool! Your pieces are wonderful as well! You have inspired me to store my tea in something pretty! I am embarrassed to say that it sits in its boring box! What was I thinking! I now know what to look for on my next thrifting trip! Thanks friend!

    1. Until the tea canister burst apart at the seams, the coffee canister was never used (kept up in the cupboard empty for 40 odd years!). I'm glad I've given you inspiration on the tea storage issue ;)

  12. Such a sweet collection - just adore these vintage canisters and have three mismatching ones for my bits. A Greens sugar jar for tea, a gorgeous lemon 30's jar for sugar and a spice jar for coffee.

  13. Can I come round for tea please? Our teabags stay in the box, although Yorkshire Tea boxes are very decorative with lovely are work I will have to keep my eyes open for something a little prettier. Sarah x

    1. Of course you may come ... any time! Now I thought the same thing, that if the tea boxes were extra pretty, I would be hoarding the boxes to use for other things as well! I sometimes take my red Twinings tea box and pack up some cookies (or gifts), and they smell so good :)
