Swirl Hat

I finally made a hat for myself.

I've only made a couple of hats previously and I found them challenging working with dpns.  But I've got a bit more experience under my belt now, and found this hat pattern to be quick and easy!  I followed this pattern from Ravelry.  Using DK yarn and 3.25mm needles.  I worked it in circular needles to start and then changed to dpns for decreasing.

I'm very happy with the result, and like that swirl pattern.  And my husband kindly agreed with me that it doesn't look dorky, but that my other hat does.  hmmm  The only thing I've found in wearing it is that it doesn't keep my head as warm as my 'dorky' hat, so it is only good for these mild winter days (not for
-20C).

And I found another good use for my glass dome ... it's modeling the hat :)

Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Love your new blog lay out, Wendy, it's gorgeous!!

Thanks for your comment on my felted sitting mats :)
They are very easy to make and also very practical, and I really like them. On mine I cast on 70 stitches (two strands of yarn) and knitted 47 garter stitch knit rows. When finished the mats were felted in the washing mashine on 60 degrees.

It's not so easy to give a correct pattern, as different kinds of yarn gives different results when felted.
When using a thicker wool yarn I guess one strand of yarn is enough, and something between 50-70 stitches. Basically you knit untill your mat is almost square. Knitted wool always felts a little more top-bottom than sideways, so the finished mat will be rectangular. If needed stretch the mat to correct size or shape after felting while still wet.
    Good luck :)

    1. Thanks for the comment about the blog ... wasn't sure if it was 'too much'! And thank you so much for the details on your mats. I'm definitely going to work up some of these and take them on our hikes! I'll post the finished products :)

    1. Thanks Maria ... I'm rather pleased with getting that photo (which is mine) to work in the background :) And I'm very pleased with another success at knitting and am wearing it every day (although I wish it was warm enough now NOT to have to wear it!). Take care, W
