My Pup

I was unable to get to any sewing today, and started thinking about my little dog, who is a very "needy" dog.  He needs attention and is worrisome if he doesn't get it ALL the time.  But he's pretty good despite that one annoying flaw.  If you ever saw the movie "Up" and the dog that had a famous line (famous in our house anyway), "I was waiting under your porch because I love you".... that's my dog.  He always wants to be with you.  As I type this I am sitting in an office chair, he is curled up on my lap, and the keyboard is on top of him!  But that's what he loves ... closeness.

He's really smart and does all sorts of tricks (which we're all sort of bored with now), and he'll perform ANYthing for you for a treat.  He rolls over, he dances around, he break-dances, he jumps, he does an army crawl, he waves, he high-fives, he plays dead (complete with realistic groans), he weaves through poles, he jumps through hoops, he speaks, he whispers, he holds a biscuit on his nose and then swipes it into his mouth, he sits and sits "pretty".

He also is a master of camoflauge and that is what I wanted to show you today.

Now I know you can see him here ...

... and he knows it too.  BUT! with a little roll in the dirt and leaves ...

... he's suddenly dirt coloured and difficult to find in the woods
(even more so when his mouth is closed!).

I mean if he wasn't sillouetted (above), you would have missed him!

And against the moss-covered rocks ... poof!

... he is a moss-covered rock ...

Thankfully, after a dip in the lake ...

... and a good solid shake ...

He's as good as new again.

  1. Wow, he's one clever pooch, if a little needy Wendy.
A lovely post and yes, he does blend in well with the background when covered in leaves and dirt.
So glad he could have a dip in the lake to clean up, would be a big job washing him all the time.
he's lovely and I'm sure he's much loved too.......

    1. He's a good friend - and to be honest, it's usually AFTER the dip in the lake (or creek) that he has a good roll in the muck. He loves being in the water, but he hates to get wet (makes him itchy!) Wendy

  2. He sounds like the perfect companion, think I might keep tripping over him or stepping on his paws though! :)

    1. Yes, he'll hopefully be with us for a good long time! These dogs live for about 15 years (Miniature Australian Shepherd), and he's only 7 :) Wendy

  4. You made me laugh. Especially that shaking dry photo. Are you sure he's not an undercover agent?

My Eldest was trying to convince me to get Mini Australian Shepherd just this summer. The pups were so ridiculously sweet that I almost caved. Now this post is making me kick myself for NOT caving.

    1. Apart from a chocolate lab I had as a kid, I've never seen a better dog (my good friend has six standard Aussies and they're so, so good). You have a perfect place for them too, and like most herding dogs, they don't wander away (even out in the woods). Cody keeps us in sight and patrols us to keep us together when we're hiking. We thought if we ever showed him (in agility) we'd call him "Code Red Cody" ... so maybe there IS a little undercover agent there :) Wendy

  6. Awwww....so cute and sounds like such a sweet and smart dog! We have an Airedale kind of like that...she knows tons of tricks (she even rings a bell when she wants to go outside) and she wants to be with us at all times. You're right...that can be tough sometimes but the love she has never stops amazing us. Dogs are special. :-) P.S. Those photos are awesome!

    1. I like the idea of the dog ringing a bell ... ours just BARKS nonstop till he's let back in (one of the most annoying things about him is that he's so vocal)
