Sew I worked away in my kitchen at my sewing project ... a cushion cover for my daughter that I had promised, oh, sometime back in the summer. She had been getting her bedroom in order again when she finished university and moved back home. She is using the colours aqua and coral, which are nice together, but coral is difficult to find. When she couldn't find any coral cushions, I volunteered to make one for her.
This is the fabric I used for the front ...
I got all pieces cut out and the back opening sewn, I'm making an envelope backing.
I got the aqua braid stitched all around the edge of the front piece ...
... and had the back pieces pinned in place ...
At this point I had to pick up my daughter from work at 10:00 p.m. Rather than working any further on it so late at night, I decided to leave it until today. Good thing. When I showed my daughter my progress, she informed me I was using the wrong fabric for the front piece.
This is the fabric I was supposed to be making it from ...
I'm writing this quickly this morning since I'm heading out in a minute to visit dear ol' Dad. When I get home, I'll have to rip out all the lovely stitches securing the braid and start on the front piece again. grrrr...
This was me, joining up for Friday Night Sew-In with Sugarlane Designs. Enjoy your weekend!
Wendy
Oh geez, don't you hate it when the kids point out our mistakes? lol
ReplyDeleteOh, what perfect timing! It's a good thing you hadn't stitched the pillow case together {{smiles}} Happy sewing, my friend. The pillow is going to look very pretty!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Sounds like me, two steps forward, one step back.
ReplyDeleteI have done that a few times. What you did does look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI hate to undo what I had done. That is the part I dislike in sewing. I too have difficulty with certain materials, not knowing which is front or back. Your cushion cover is going to look very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating Wendy I do that sort of thing all the time, you will get it sorted and it will be lovely, have a great weekend. :) xx
ReplyDeleteHello, I like the coral and aqua colors together. Very pretty materials. Sounds frustrating. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDelete:/ Oops! So, what's the other material for?
ReplyDeleteOh dear Wendy! At least you didn't get it totally put together, right? I hate ripping out, but you'll be making your daughter happy, and you, too!
ReplyDeleteYou're such a great Mom Sweetie! How frustrating to have to do that part over though!! Annie is obsessed with those colors too & we just changed her bedding & things in her room a bit. I just know that when you're done with that pillow it's going to look amazing! ;)
ReplyDeleteBtw - I'm having a blogaversary giveaway on my blog. Please pop by & check it out! I'd love to enter a chance for you to win!! Blessings dear Wendy. Xo
Wow. I think I would have carried on and (maybe) made two pillows before undoing all that work! You are a very patient and kind person, Wendy :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear - Daughters can be so "particular"!! Love the idea of Coral & Aqua.
ReplyDeleteAqua and coral are lovely together! How wonderful to be able to sew for your daughter. I'm sure she will be pleased. Thank you for your visit today, Wendy.
ReplyDeleteIt is very difficult seeing our loved ones ill. We want to keep them the way they once were. My mother is in a nursing home as well and very hard of hearing. I find it very draining to have to make myself heard. Sometimes I take to writing notes but since I have trouble holding a pen, that is also difficult. But she appreciates the visits so we go and try to make her day. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.
Blessings from PEI,
Sandi
At least you did not get it finished and had to unpick it all. Both are pretty feature fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI like the fabric you've used. And the aqua braid is the perfect finishing touch.

It's not a real sewing project if it hasn't involved some unpicking ;o). It'll look great when it's done. Love that fabric x
ReplyDeleteOh dear. It was looking so good too!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteGood thing your daughter caught the error before you finished the pillow. She's lucky that her mom is such a talented seamstress.
