On Thursday morning I visited a local marsh down along the shores of Lake Ontario. It was a rather damp and chilly morning with a sharp breeze coming off the lake, but there was lots of feathery activity in the woods.
How well do you know North American birds?
For today's five, I'm only going to show some feathers of birds I saw at the marsh,
and you can see if you recognize the birds.
ONE:
TWO:
THREE:
FOUR:
FIVE:
SIX:
SEVEN:
(who's really counting?!)
Could you guess them all? Well, just because I'm the sort of person who hates unsolved mysteries, here are the answers:
ONE: Male Mallard Duck
TWO: Canada Goose
THREE: Turkey
FOUR: Black-Capped Chickadee
FIVE: Nuthatch
SIX: Female Mallard Duck
SEVEN: Well, this one I don't know!
Does anyone know the identity of this quite beautiful duck?
A bit larger than the mallard (top).
Thanks for stopping by today!
Wendy
I guessed the mallard and the the goose! We still have lots of geese hanging around the pond behind us. Very pretty views on your walk!
ReplyDeleteWonderful scenery - so pretty! I enjoyed trying to guess the birds, but failed every one :) I thought the turkey was a pheasant and the duck was a goose, and well, you can see I am not good at it without a guide book! So nice to have all those beauties to visit on your walk. x Karen
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I don't know much about North American birds, Wendy. Those photos of the feathers are incredible. How wonderful to meet all those beauties on your walk.
ReplyDeleteI guessed the first two birds! Your photos are fab. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteLovely collection of birds. The closeups of the feathers are beautiful. I love the scenic shots too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
We quite often have ducks & geese flying over the house from the local farm. Great 7's xx
ReplyDeleteVery interesting aet of pictures! Not easy to guess.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant post! So clever, am afraid my bird recognition is rubbish, but I enjoyed this never the less x
ReplyDeleteMy knowledge is slim bordering on zero but it was lovely to capture the views as well, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteA good test of our knowledge of the birds by just a snippet of their feathers Wendy. Can't say I got them all right, I would have asked for a bigger hint. :-)
ReplyDeleteFun! I did guess a few of them.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs really show up the beauty of these birds. How cool to see Turkeys in the wild!
ReplyDeleteI guessed a few as they are the same in the UK. Can't help you with your mystery duck. I could be a cross breed you get a few of them in wild duck populations! Great photos love the close ups.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun Wendy!! You know that I always forgive you for more than five as they are always so good!!! This was a great way to test our knowledge, at which I failed miserably! Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I guessed the goose and the turkey. I should have been able to guess the chickadee and the nuthatch. We have them here in Colorado. I like the mystery duck, too!
ReplyDeleteAren't the feathers beautiful ! I managed a couple of them but had to look at the answers for the rest! :-)
ReplyDeleteI liked your bird feathers and didn't manage to guess any of them.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I am not a bird watcher, I only got the Male Mallard Duck. Thank you so much for the answers. The textures and the colours are so pretty in your photos. Really wonderful!

Wonderful pics of lovely ducks and birds .... I love them !! Have a lovely weekend !
ReplyDeleteAmazing photo's Wendy, I didn't guess a single one! Have a great weekend. :) xx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for Five on Friday - I spotted the Canada Goose but the rest had me guessing and looking at the answers! Have a lovely weekend:)
ReplyDeleteCool! How'd you capture such close-up shots without getting attacked?!? Ha!
ReplyDeleteI got some of the photos. Your mystery duck is a challenge. I've looked in a few books but haven't come up with the name yet. It has some resemblance to the mallards. Do it have that mallard distinctive curl of feathers on its tail? I've been busy so just catching up with Five on Friday.
ReplyDeleteI recognized half of these feathers! Not bad considering I don't consider myself very knowledgeable in this area!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh this was so fun! Although I didn't do that well. Lol I got the goose, the turkey, the chickadee - and I knew one was a duck but not the kind. Thanks for the "quiz". ;)
ReplyDeleteBlessings on your week ahead Wendy. XO
I missed the last two :)
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, what a fun post! I enjoyed looking at the pretty photos and nature. I hope you are having a nice week. Julie
