Scarf & Wreath

Here's a quick update on a couple of things.  I reworked my dad's pinecone wreath, and it now looks like this:

It's pretty much identical to what I gave him last year, but I don't want to do a lot to it.  I think the pinecones really make this wreath, and to add a lot of fake greenery and berries just wasn't working.  I do like the red berries on it though ... adds some bright colour.

I was having trouble making the bow, so I googled how to make bows and found a great tutorial here.  Very simple, clear instructions.  I was then able to put the bow together quickly using the suggested wired-edged ribbon.

I think my dad will like it!

In the knitting, I've only gotten this far with my daughter's scarf:

I'm using a scroll stitch pattern from my "Stitch Library" book, and just repeating the pattern three times across the scarf.  I stretched it out a bit so you can see the lacey scroll pattern ... doesn't it look like waves?  I love the shades of blue in this pure wool.  I have to use up the entire ball of yarn to make this into an infinity scarf ... so you can see I have a way to go!

That's it for today.  I have lots of handmade projects piling up before Christmas.  Although I often realize I leave everything too late, I just never feel motivated to make Christmas gifts until closer to Christmas.  For me, working under pressure really gets my ideas flowing ;)  How about you?

Thanks for stopping by again today!

Wendy

  1. I do certainly work better under pressure, and I should be right now but decided to catch up on blog posts instead! Your Dad's wreath looks amazing and I do love the way you have arranged the berries along with the fantastic bow. I'll have a go at that. I feel the panic levels beginning to rise! Take care. xx

  3. Wow - your dad's wreath is fabulous Wendy..all the versions - and the story behind it, thinking of you both as you share the experience.
As I looked at the photos of your beautiful blue rippling scarf it instantly reminded me of rolling waves....and then I read your comment! It really has flow and movement!
I'm in a similar place - lots of piling up projects....and looming deadline...always leave the frenzied activity later than I should - but it does get the creative ideas flowing!
Hope you are staying warm in the sprinkling of snow!

  4. The wreath looks beautiful. I know he will appreciate it very much. The scarf is coming along beautifully too! I have almost finished the big handmade gift I've been working on for a few months, and now just have a few simpler ones to make.

  5. The wreath is beautiful Wendy it looks so professional and the bow is a lovely touch. I love how the scarf ripples, it's so unusual and colours are gorgeous, your daughter is going to love it. Yes I definitely work better under pressure in all things. I always leave things to the last minute even Christmas shopping, my friends all have their's done already but for me it's still too early and I'm not feeling it yet the Christmas spirit hasn't hit me, once it does everything will just flow and it will be a pleasure rather than a chore, I always manage to get there in the end. :)

  9. You have done a beautiful job with your Dad's wreath Wendy, he will be so pleased to have it back! And the ripples in your daughter's scarf are looking gorgeous - the colour is so right! I'm afraid I don't work well under pressure and really feel the need to be organised in good time, although there are often last minute little things that do turn up and I handle them in the best way I can!!! Hugs, Joy x

  10. The wreath is gorgeous but it also has a masculine feel to it as well - it has a true woodland appeal and I bet that is why your dad loves it so much! Great work, Wendy! You have made a lot of progress on your scarf and it is looking good and the pattern is very stylish! If I don't start my projects in early December, I pretty much won't get anything done!

  14. I like the wreath renovation and use the wire rimmed ribbon myself for projects since it will keep its shape.
You're busy knitting and crafting, hope your gifts are done with time to spare.
